STM 800:
Mathematical Statistics PhD Thesis
Purpose:
Students will be required to plan and execute independent original research activities
leading to writing up a doctoral thesis on a topic of interest with the assistance of a
supervisor.
Contents:
Student will select a topic in conjunction with a
supervisor, which must be approved by the
Research Committee of the University.
Instruction:
Teaching of research skills through the supervision of
research project.
Credit:
360
Assessment: The Candidate will be assessed (both internally and by
two external examiners) on the basis of the
submitted thesis. The thesis submitted should
demonstrate the candidate’s ability to undertake
independent research (including a comprehensive
literature review on the chosen topic) and his/her
grasp of the research methods and analytical
techniques of the chosen field. In addition, the
thesis must reflect the original work of the
candidate and must also contribute to knowledge in
the chosen area of specialization.
Prerequisite:
MSc in any area of Mathematical Statistics or other equivalent qualification, subject
to the approval of the Head of Department.

Applied Statistics PhD Thesis
Purpose:
Students will be required to plan and execute independent original research activities
