UFH WATER RNA and AEMREG Leader deliver the 2014 Distinguished Guest Lecture and received OAU Staff Club Meritorious service Award

The University of Fort Hare Water Research Niche Area Leader; Head of the Department of Biochemistry and Microbiology; and Leader of the Applied and Environmental Microbiology Research Group (AEMREG), Prof Anthony I Okoh delivered the 2014 Distinguished Guest Lecture of the Faculty of Science, Obafemi  Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria on the 26th of June 2014 at the 1000 capacity lecture theatre of the university. The lecture entitled “The Water Microbiome Duality: important resources or agents of perdition” and which lasted over an hour was attended by a mammoth crowd comprised of staff and students of the university and the public. Also, Prof Okoh was honoured by the Staff Club of the university in recognition of his meritorious services to the Club as its President in 2002-2004. The occasion was also graced by some of Prof Okoh’s former doctoral students and mentees from several universities in Nigeria. In the closing remark on the occasion, the Chairman, Committee of Deans of the University (Prof W Muse) praised Prof Okoh for his tremendous contribution to the body of knowledge in environmental microbiology and for been a worthy alumnus and ambassador of the University popularly christened “GREAT IFE”. He expressed delight that a number of collaboration opportunities are being discussed with Prof Okoh and looked forward to a mutually beneficial relationship between the University of Fort Hare and Obafemi Awolowo University through the proposed linkage and collaboration initiatives.
