Amidst all the academic success stories, members of the University of Fort Hare’s (UFH) Management Executive Committee (MEC), led by the Vice-Chancellor Prof Sakhela Buhlungu, yesterday recognized the academic gains of six security officers at the University who recently graduated from the institution.

In a heartwarming luncheon hosted by the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, these unsung heroines and heroes were celebrated for their unwavering dedication.

The six security officers are:

  1. Ms Noziphiwo Govuza – Bachelor of Administration in Public Administration
  2. Ms Nolusindiso Falabiwe – Bachelor of Arts
  3. Ms Phindiwe Mpukane – Bachelor of Arts
  4. Ms Xoliswa Ncayo - Postgrad Diploma in Archives and Records Management
  5. Ms Ntombizethu Sawu - Bachelor of Administration in Public Administration

Narrating their respective journey to graduation, it was evident that juggling a 12-hour shift, parenting, taking care of family, and their studies came with challenges, however, it became all worthwhile when they crossed the graduation stage to collect their respective degrees.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Teaching & Learning, Prof Renuka Vithal, applauded the efforts and recognized the obstacles overcome by these officers, especially the women. She encouraged them to reach for their dreams.

Dr Lebohang Hashatse, the DVC for Institutional Support, stressed the importance of education in changing people’s lives for the better. He further encouraged the development of programmes that will support all University support staff who do not hold a matric qualification.

The VC encouraged the officers to apply their new knowledge and skills to advance themselves and improve the quality of work in their respective areas.

In honoring their strides and signaling their added “UFH Alumni” titles, the VC presented them with certificates of appreciation and the prestigious black and gold alumni blazer.
