The University of Fort Hare 2022 Research Week of Excellence (RWE) started in earnest this morning with an official opening address by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Sakhela Buhlungu, and a key address delivered by the CEO of the National Research Foundation (NRF), Prof Fulufhelo Nelwamondo.

Held annually, the UFH RWE aims to provide a platform for the dissemination and showcasing of research activities. The event also plays a vital role in strengthening the presentation skills of the University’s researchers and also showcases intellectual property and research innovation that could attract external funding and partnerships.

Themed: “Advancing innovative research in the Decade of Renewal,” the four-day event (14- 17 November) will be dedicated to celebrating the work of researchers, postgraduate students, postdoctoral fellows and intellectual property and innovation.

More than 100 research papers will be presented during the week.

As per norm, the RWE will conclude with the Vice-Chancellors Research Excellence Awards ceremony where a senior researcher (a staff member who has demonstrated sustained research and scholarly achievements that reflect exceptional quality and excellence) and an emerging researcher (a staff member who demonstrates potential to become a researcher of excellence) will be awarded.

Newly rated NRF researchers will also be recognized during the awards ceremony to be held on Thursday evening.

Another significant highlight of the week will be the launch of the 2021/2022 Research Report
