Justice Madlanga encourages exemplary UFH Law students during awards ceremony
“Take pride in being part of the fabric of this historic institution. The institution of Getrude Ntlabathi, an accomplished English teacher; the institution of Ms Wendy Luhabe, a pioneer in the economic empowerment of women; the institution of Robert Sobukwe, of Govan Mbeki, Oliver Tambo, of Mandela, of Sir Seretse Khama; the institution of many who led the light of our continent, Africa,” – Justice Mbuyisela Madlanga.
The revered Senior Judge of the Constitutional Court was speaking during a Red Carpet Excellence Awards hosted by the Faculty of Law in honour of some of the faculty’s brilliant students.
Altogether, 14 students were awarded during the splendid evening event that was held on the 14th of October at the Osner Hotel in East London.
In attendance was Prof Renuka Vithal, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning; Dr Nthabi Taole-Mjimba the Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Partnership and Innovation; the Dean of Law, Prof Mzukisi Njotini; the Deputy Dean, Prof van Coller and staff from the faculty.
In addressing the students, the Dean borrowed from the words of Lily Tomlin, American actress, comedian, writer, singer, and producer, which are: “The road to success is always under construction”
“In constructing this road to success requires one to go through continuous obstacles and periods of loneliness, fatigue and helplessness. Given that change is inevitable, one will have to look at changing times and changing environments. Also, sometimes people change, as such, you have to lose some of your friends in order to achieve success.”
“The most important thing about all of this, is to always remain consistent towards building your success. I am proud to say the students that were honouring today have mastered the initial hurdle in embarking towards their journey of constructing their success.”
