FNB UFH Blues off to a good start in Rugby Varsity Shield 2020
The University of Fort Hare's rugby side, affectionately known as “Luma Ke Blues” kick-started their 2020 FNB Varsity Shield campaign with a splendid performance, outperforming their Rhodes counterparts in an entertaining encounter at the Madibaz (NMU) stadium last Friday.
FNB Blues thrashed FNB Rhodes, 52-7.
The match produced an incredible nine tries with Fort Hare Blues crossing the line 8 times to a Rhodes single. Six of Blues tries were converted.
Blues were leading 12-7 before going to the first strategy break, having crossed the try line twice, with Mthandazo Gcubeni opening the floodgates living Keith Chiwara to convert.
Kamvelihle Menze scored the unconverted try on the 14th minute. Mihlali Nobomvu and Kamvelihle Fatyela also contributed with two tries apiece. In the dying seconds of the game, Blues winger Migcobo Bovu was given his marching orders following a red card offense.
The FNB UFH Blues is now sitting on position three, having only played one game. Their next encounter, a much-anticipated clash with archrivals WSU- All Blacks at the Buffalo City Stadium on Friday 28th.
