The Hillensberg Trust Student induction
The University of Fort Hare held an induction on Monday 20th August for the 10 top academically achieving and financial needy students across faculties. These students will benefit from the Hillensberg Trust which donated a sum of R1, 100 000 to the institution. Students from fine arts, information systems, music and from the faculty of health science are the beneficiaries. Prof Mzwandile Mavuso, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Education relayed a word of gratitude to the Hillensburg Trust as “This opportunity does not come to everyone”. He also wished the students well in their studies and asked them to be responsible as they navigate towards their future. Professor John Hendricks, interim Deputy Vice chancellor- academic affairs also motivated students to take this opportunity and use it wisely and to carve their success through such opportunities. A third year bachelor of music student, Songeziwe Myeha who in 2012 lost his father but had to soldier on is grateful to Hillensberg trust bursary for coming to his rescue and for bringing relief to his family as well, he said. “I am grateful for this opportunity I promise not to waste it. I know through our performance this year several generation that will come after us will also benefit from this amazing Bursary”, said Songeziwe.
A Matatiele born B.Cur student, Nomakwezi Tenene had this to say on behalf of health science students “We would like to take this opportunity to thank Hillensberg Trust for funding us. It has indeed saved our lives and made our dreams come true. This bursary has helped a lot because we won't have to worry about the fees anymore. Opportunities like these are scarce, to be selected out of thousands of students. We will do our best academically as a show of appreciation and give back to the community as expected”
