Be the legacy- Commemorating Madiba’s centenary

The University of Fort Hare in conjunction with Konica Minolta and Food and Trees for Africa in honour of the late President Nelson Mandela who would have turned a one hundred years old this year, planted one hundred trees at the University of Fort Hare main campus.The Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture and Science, Dr Lelethu Heshula highlighted the importance of the tree planting session and that it should represent the real legacy of Madiba as trees represent growth, renewal, and tenacity.” The location itself has a potential to preserve trees for so many generations.” Dr Heshula mention need to applaud our partners for the generous gift of indigenous trees as this in fifty years will still be visible.

Konica Minolta, Food and Trees for Africa have been involved in planting trees for different charities and schools and have  planted not less than 42 000 trees since 2008 are very excited to be associated with schools where Mandela once set foot as a student, said Mr Gary Eves who is branch manager of Konica Minolta South Africa.

Nomzamo Garden and Grounds cooperative, ENUCTUS, JCI and students from the faculty of Agriculture and Science graced the occasion.

The SRC through its Secretary General made an undertaking to take care of the trees and endeavour to keep the environment as natural as possible with a clear understanding that trees are a natural tool to deal with carbon dioxide and provide oxygen at night.
