Human Movement
It includes the study of exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor development, sport management, exercise science, sport psychology and general physical activity.
The department was established before 2000 and administered under the Faculty of Social Sciences at first before migrating to the Faculty of Science and Agriculture in 2007. The department has since grown both in terms of teaching staff and programs, offering a Bachelor of Health in Human Movement Science (HMS), an Honours Program as well as a Masters in Human Movement Science since 2012.
The establishment of the Faculty of Health Sciences provides the Department of HMS with its new permanent home in 2016. Currently, the HMS department has five teaching staff members and a number of part-time lecturers. The student enrolment has increased steadily and the department has motivated for a PhD in Human Movement Sciences, expected to be launched in 2017.
