Proud beneficiary of the 2016 Abe Bailey Travel Bursary

Having hitched her wagon to a star, Inga Macingwane, a third year law student who is not afraid to reach for the moon, has shined her way to a 2016 Abe Bailey Travel Bursary. The bursary will see her travelling to the African Union headquarters in Ethiopia, then to London and Scotland, on a three week educational expedition.

Umtata born Inga Macingwane attended Victoria Girls high in Grahamstown where she matriculated in 2013. She then registered for a law degree at the University of Fort Hare in 2014 where she has consistently refused to be a nonentity. Inga, who is also a recipient of the Cannon Collins Scholarship, is a Customary Law SI leader, chairperson of the debate society, served as the Secretary General for the Students for Law and Social Justice (SLSJ) in 2015. Moreover, she is a feminist who advocates for women rights and has participated in youth empowerment and community development programmes.

The Abe Bailey Trust bursary seeks to broaden the views of young exceptional South African students with a strong academic background, exceptional leadership qualities and an outstanding community involvement record, to foster their enterprise, leadership, commitment and effective participation in the global community. “I'm particularly excited about being awarded this bursary because it will be my first time travelling abroad. I will also be learning from and exchanging ideas with remarkable students from other tertiary institutions. This is a once in a life time opportunity to broaden my knowledge. It will also assist in moulding my leadership skills to enable me to contribute to a better world in general and a better South Africa in particular”, says Inga.
