Fort Hare assures maximum security as it hosts the 2017 Intervarsity

The University of Fort Hare will play host to the 2017 edition of the Eastern Cape Intervarsity sponsored by Coca Cola and the First National Bank. More than 2000 participants  from Rhodes, Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu universities are expected to join the hosts on the 18th and 19th of August 2017.

 

Mr. Loyiso Lange, head of sport at the University of Fort Hare is confident that the event will be a success with support from the Campus Security, South African Police Services, Emergency Rescue Services and the Raymond Mhlaba local municipality to ensure the safety of participants and spectators.

 

“We are anticipating a huge turnout of in this year’s edition of the tournament, and we have a huge responsibility to protect the reputation of this tournament as well as the University of Fort Hare’s ability to host events of this magnitude. We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that maximum security is ensured to control crowds and participants. We have been hosting other major crowd puller events such as the Varsity Shield games since 2012 and recently the Varsity Football and we hope to maintain that level of commitment this weekend”, said Lange.
