In a very wet weather at the Pietermaritzburg’s Booysen stadium on  20th February, the University of Fort Hare Blues suffered a second defeat in their  FNB sponsored Varsity Shield campaign, this time at the hands of University of KwaZulu Natal Impi In a very closely contested game by 16 points to 10.

Blues Captain, Zanoxolo Qwele conceded, “We have tried our hearts out and gave Impi a good run for their money, but in the end it was just not enough at all.  We have to leave that behind and focus to more that lies ahead”.  Fort Hare has three remaining games to redeem itself, two away games with neighbours Rhodes on the 27th, the last game with CPUT in Cape Town. In- between those games they will be playing hosts to TUT at the Davidson stadium.

Despite the loss, Fort Hare Blues showed a lot of brilliance and dominance on all the phases of the of the play as their pack had an upper hand, providing good quick quality ball, winning all their feed at the scrums and outshining their opponents at lineouts but could not take advantage of all that to sway the results to their favour.  “I guess we have the correct human resources in this regard to solve our problem and move forward and get positive results as expected by our throng of rugby supports in our area” said the captain.
