Baby Blues swing to success

The University of Fort Hare Ladies Rugby Team known as Baby Blues were crowned Champions of  women’s club championships for 2017, this after dethroning defending champions Busy Bee of Cape Town by 22 points to 7.Before the final Baby Blues had first to take on other tough opponents from  Pretoria, Mamelodi and sailed through by a convincing 48-5 victory.

 

The tourney was held in Langa Township, Cape Town in the Western Cape Province in October. 

Baby Blues captain, Nosivu Noguba was extremely proud of the team efforts and performance throughout the Women’s Club Championships. “The girls were much disciplined during the camp leading to the tournament and everyone just wanted to do well, I am really grateful to lead such a talented and quality team that is hungry for nothing else but success”, said Noguba

Ntyatyambo Mkhafu the Head Coach of the team was extremely happy for the girls and praised unity plus hard work as the reason for this success. He really thinks the girls have raised their hands to be recognised for both Border and Springbok teams.

The ladies outfit is ranked in the top five of the USSA standings out of a total of twelve universities and has a visible representation in the Border team with four players and two are on national duties for the Springboks. Lusanda Dumke was part of the 11 to 25 October tour of springbok’s team to the United Kingdom.

A big thank you must be given to Sports Department for supporting us throughout the league, we really appreciate their support. Secondly a big thank you to Mr Loyiso Lange, Head of Sport at our university for supporting the team with basic needs such as nutrition and strapping before and after the tournament.
