Kevin Onyenankeya, PhD (Communication, UFH), M.sc (Public Relation & Advertising, University of Lagos) B.sc (Mass Communication, University of Lagos), Mnipr (NIPR), arpa (APCON) PRP (PRISA). Dr Onyenankeya is a Senior Lecturer and Head, department of Communication. He has over 25 years of trade experience spanning journalism, corporate communication and teaching. His teaching career began in 2011 at Caleb University Nigeria, where he taught undergraduate students courses in communication. Before that, he was the co-founder and chief operating officer of an integrated marketing communications concern. Dr Onyenankeya has hands-on experience in public relations and relationship management, which he honed at an international banking concern. He has previously worked as a senior reporter, features writer and Desk Head in a number of Nigerian print media organisations. He is passionate about mentoring and preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

 

Research Interests: 

Dr Onyenankeya’s research focuses on risk communication, particularly environmental issues and health. He is currently involved in water communication research with a focus on developing participatory communication strategies for engaging rural and peri-urban residents in water conservation. His broader research interests are centred on how development communication could improve pro-environmental behaviour (water conservation) within the context of sustainable natural resource management. He has been part of the Water Research Niche Area at the University of Fort Hare, leading to several water communication articles. Beyond environmental communication-related research, he has a growing interest in indigenous media analysis critical intercultural communication, particularly the construction, negotiation, and representation of ethnic and transnational identities. He has authored or co-authored several papers, book chapters and conference proceedings.
