Professor Reuben Rashe is an Associate for the Centre for Theology and Religion at University of Fort Hare in Alice Campus. He is an Ordained Minister of the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa with the following qualifications; Dip Theol. (Fedsem) M.Th.(UWC), H.D.E. (UWC) PhD Theo. (US). Prof Rashe teaches and supervise in the following disciplines: Systematic Theology, Ethics and Practical Theology.

Research Interests: 

Main themes in his research include family, church, faith, and gender.

Teaching includes both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes TST 115 Introduction to Sytematic Theology (Survey of Christian beliefs, Intoduction to Contextual Theology and theologies) TST 215 Christian understanding Doctrine of God, Christology and Pneumatology for Social transformation (Themes alternate every year) TST 315 The Christian understanding of humanity, salvation, church and eschatology for social transformation (Themes alternate every year) Honours programme TST 501 Doctrine of Trinity TST 504 This is a research project or Extended Essay (Supervise students on their research project) Also involved in teaching church history TCH 125 African Christianity in Antiquity (Themes per semester are selected from the following: The Jewish Diaspora, Gnosticism, Montanism, Monasticism, Introduction to Islamic Religion. The Arian Controversy and Athanasius, Catechetical Schools,This Module is 8crd. TCH 225 History of Christianity in South Africa – Church and State (Imperialism and Colonialism: the role of African Clergy, The African Initiated Churches, Establishment of local church, Segregation and Apartheid, South African Council of Churches, Church Unity Commission, Black consciousness and Black Theology, Study of significant documents such as Blehar Confession, Kioros document, Barmen Declaration and ect. Expansion of Christianity- (second half of the nineteenth century) Introduction to Reformation, (Themes are selected for the semester) TCH 325 Revivals, Revolutions and the Ecumenical Church The period of Enlightenment, German Pietism, the Evangelical Revivals and early Methodism; The Rise of Liberalism in Germany; The Scottish Church scene in the 19th C. The study of S.A African intellectuals, (Ntsikana, Tiyo Soga and others) Themes for the are selected from the above. The Roman Catholic Church in the 18th and 19th Century. The rise of missionary movements, the developments of liberation theologies, Ecumenical Movements and relevant issues in the interpretation of Scriptures. Supervision Responsibilities All lecturers are required to do the supervision of postgraduate students. Masters in Theology PhD in Theology
