Gideon Tebid is a lecturer in the department. He has over 12 years of teaching and corporate training experience. He has taught media, mass communication, and marketing communication in several other FET and HET colleges in South Africa including Tshwane University of Technology, Vaal University of Technology, Midrand Graduate Institute, and the Damelin Education Group.

Gideon completed a Masters in International Communication from the University of the Witwatersrand, and is currently working on a doctorate. He has presented papers in local and international conferences such as the South African Communication Association (SACOMM), the International Journal of Arts and Sciences (IJAs), and the International Association of Media & Communication Researchers (IAMCR) Conferences.

Before getting besotted to classrooms and training venues, he had flirted with newspaper and radio journalism, and had also tried corporate communication and copy-writing. His real passion though is fun reading. He is the coordinator of the Voracious African Readers Club – the VARC initiative. An actual and virtual fun-reading forum where African book lovers find and read prose and other literature written by African writers; post reviews online, and then meet fortnightly online to discuss their readings.

His research interests include: Media and democracy; New Media and Social Change; Media and international communication; Intercultural communication; Media and education; and Political Communication in general.
