Mr Thando Mama is a MFA Graduate of the Arts of Africa and Global South Research Programme in the Fine Art Department at Rhodes University. He has a professional career of over 18 years; a recipient of the Prix de la Communaute Francaise de Belgique in 2004 at the Daka’rt Biennial, the MTN New Contemporaries award in 2003. His work is mostly new media, photography, video art and installation art. He have work also as an Exhibitions Designer at Robben Island Museum and independent artist-curator and Arts Project Manager

Research Interests: 

His teaching areas include Visual Arts Literature, Graphics including traditional printmaking, analogue and digital photography. His research area are in commemorative performance, memorials and land/ landmarks, photographic archive and critical theory in contemporary South African society, including black modernist and amateur 20th century South African black photographers and art historians. Professional practice; include exhibition making, curation, visual arts content creation, curriculum development for critical theory in visual culture and art history, arts consultation.
