In our centennial year, we are not only celebrating our rich academic, political and cultural legacy, now we also boast our sporting achievements. Our university men’s football team has done us proud by qualifying for their first ever Varsity Football Competition. Our boys achieved this milestone by reaching semi-finals of the USSA Football National Championships of 2016 that were hosted in Bloemfontein in March.

The Head Coach, Mr Hanyani, described their qualification into Varsity Football as something great for the university which cannot go unnoticed as the team will be participating in the top competition of university football. He went on to say, “Our journey started in 2012 and we faced numerous hurdles and disappointments along the way including failing to qualify for this competition twice. However, the boys did not give up as they have kept the faith, worked hard and remained disciplined”

The UFH Warriors will be kicking off the tournament on Mandela Day (18th of July) against the Central University of Technology live on Supersport 4. This match has been dubbed as the ‘main event’ of round one fixtures in the 2016 edition of Varsity Football. The coach went on to say “We are looking forward to seeing the students and Amathole community coming out in their numbers to support the warriors under our slogan #Syaviva!
