It is with a heavy heart and deep sense of loss that I have to announce that our Chancellor, Reverend Dr Arnold Makhenkesi Stofile, is no more. He passed on this morning of 15 August 2016. He was ill. A humble man, astute politician, a respected rugby sports man and man of integrity at the helm of the University of Fort Hare – Rev Stofile served this University in a number of roles, including that of an academic and lastly as Chancellor.. In the last winter graduation he attended all sessions as if he knew that this was his first and last service as Chancellor to the University. We were hopeful that he would continue to be with us as we celebrate the Centenary for the rest of 2016, but the Almighty had other plans.

We share the loss with his family, friends and the whole nation. At this stage we are not having the details of when he will be laid to rest. We shall arrange a memorial service at the Institution once we have those details. We shall share all of these with you once we have them. The University flags will fly at half-mast until he has been laid to rest. May the God of Africa be with his wife, Mrs Nambitha Stofile, their children and family at large and all of us as we mourn his passing.

May his soul rest in peace.
