Solomzi Tshona elected as the President of Convocation

The University of Fort Hare, Alumni Relations Office would like to congratulate, Mr Solomzi Tshona on his election as the new President of Convocation. He was elected at a Special General Meeting held on the 24 November 2018 at the New Teaching and learning auditorium in East London campus. Mr Tshona holds a (B.Com Degree) Business Management and Economics Sciences, (BA Hons) Developmental Studies. In furthering his education and career development, he was elected to be part of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung Scholarship and went through a MBA short-course with the BMF young professionals, and also he did a Harvard Manager Mentorship program in 2016. He is a  former National Chairperson of BMFSC at UFH in 2014-2015. He is currently working for ABSA as an Acquisition Banker in East London.

Mr Tshona described his election as a humbling and an exciting opportunity that will come with a lot of responsibilities. His main goal and objective is to ensure that the convocation acts as an official channel allowing its members to convey to the University Management its views on key issues. Whilst there is still much to be done in several areas, i.e convocation administration, its presence and visibility and in maintaining the reputation of the University as well as to increase an effective communication channel with the UFH Alumnus is underway.

“We have to raise our international connectedness, visibility and stature to improve our chances to participate meaningfully in the global knowledge economy and to open Alumni chapters not only locally but internationally too”, Mr Tshona added.
