Prof Sakhela Buhlungu offically welcomed at the State of the Province Address (SOPA)

The Speaker of the Eastern Cape Provincial Government is hosting the 5th State of the Province Address. The purpose of this year's SOPA is for the Premier to reflect on the achievements of the current Provincial Administration while reflecting on the challenges that still haunt the government. Eastern Cape Province University Vice Chancellors’ Prof Sakhela Buhlungu (UFH), Rob Migley (WSU) and Dr Sizwe Mabizela (Rhodes) were the Speaker of Parliament's guests of honour at the 5th States of The Province Address held on the 17 February 2017. The Honorable Premier Phumula Masualle officially welcome Professor Sakhela Buhlungu and wished him all the best as he will be leading the University of Fort Hare towards the next century. The Premier reflected on the role the Universities are expected to play in improving both the performance of our Provinces education system and economic development. During his SOPA Address, Masualle promised to renovate the 30 schools that were ravaged by disasters throughout the Province. Together with all the key strategic stakeholders, they will work hard to address the basics in the education sector with a focus in infrastructure improvement and upgrade. The premier confidently confirmed that "The Eastern Cape Province is in a healthy and progressive state".
