FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE

nGAP LECTURER – DEPARTMENT OF STATISTICS 

ALICE CAMPUS

SALARY : R450 000 P.A. (All-Inclusive Package)


 

The University of Fort Hare, Faculties of Science and Agriculture and Law seeks to fill nGAP Lecturer posts These are permanent posts funded from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) as part of the New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP). The nGAP involves the recruitment, support and retention of highly capable young scholars as new academics in the disciplines below.

The nGAP Programme provides a wonderful supporting environment for aspirant academics to complete their studies while developing teaching and learning, research and innovation as well as community engagement skills. The Programme covers a six year period consisting of a 3-year development programme plus 3 years induction thereafter. The nGAP Scholars will be immediately appointed into permanent positions at the University of Fort Hare.

The following generic criteria are applicable:

  • Interest in becoming an academic
  • Be 40 years or younger
  • Evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the University of Fort Hare for the full 6 years of the programme.

Participation in all components and activities of the nGAP programme for the duration of the contract; Completion of a postgraduate degree/s in the relevant field of specialization during the first three year of employment as an nGAP Lecturer. At least 80% of the positions will be allocated to black and/or women South African citizens.


 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Lecture fundamental statistics and applied statistics courses at undergraduate and Honours levels
  • Initiate and be involved in community engagement initiatives;
  • Assist with administrative duties in the department
  • Supervise honours’ projects and assist students in analysing data using statistical packages such as SAS, SPSS, STATA, R, etc

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Masters degree (any areas of statistics) must be willing to study towards PhD
  • Good teamwork, communication, commitment and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to teach statistics’ courses to a big class and handle students from diverse background s
  • Ability to work under pressure and conduct tutorials.

Included in the above remuneration is the company contribution to our compulsory pension fund, medical aid contributions, life cover and an optional annual bonus.
