University of Fort Hare invites suitably qualified candidates to apply for the position of University Librarian: Library department. Responsibilities are:

 RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

 

  • Accountability for the shape of the UFH Libraries’ collections and for the design, implementation, and evaluation of the UFH Library Services.
  • Develop and oversee the implementation of policies and strategies to ensure that an optimal mix of information services and resources is available to UFH academic community.
  • Ensure the use of appropriate technologies to deliver information in a changing digital environment.
  • Forge partnerships with key stakeholders like SEALS, SANLIC, CHELSA, UFH ICT and UFH Research Unit, to ensure delivery of appropriate and effective services
  • Provide leadership in developing a professional, service-oriented, and academically appropriate culture within UFH Libraries.
  • Participates fully at senior level in all the relevant leadership, management, and governance structures of the University.

Requirements: 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Master’s/ Doctoral Degree in Library/Information Science with 5 years’ experience in academic library management and practice OR
  • Honours in Library/Information Science with more than 10 years’ extensive knowledge and experience in academic library management and practice

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • An understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing universities and their libraries
  • Ability to manage a complex physical and virtual environment to deliver information services, and preserve information in all formats
  • Provides decisive and innovative leadership, including successful management of human, financial, and physical resources
  • Deep understanding of information technology and the ability to translate that knowledge into creative and innovative services to support teaching and research
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, and proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies
  • Ability and/or record of success to obtain external support in cash or in kind
  • Ability to be an effective spokesperson for the UFH Libraries and a fully contributing member of UFH Senior Management.
