FACULTY OF SCIENCE AND AGRICULTURE

DEPARTMENT OF LIVESTOCK AND PASTURE SCIENCE

PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER/LECTURER: ANIMAL HEALTH (1 POST)

Alice Campus - Ref No: 2147

Professor Salary: R 824 012 – R 1 026 820 (All-Inclusive Package)

Senior Lecturer Salary: R 537 636 -  R 668 851 (All-Inclusive Package)

Lecturer Salary: R 435 051 – R 540 620 (All-Inclusive Package)

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Teach Animal Health modules at undergraduate level.
  • Conduct practicals and farm vacation training for Agriculture undergraduate students;
  • Initiate own research; supervise students at undergraduate, Honours, MSc and PhD levels;
  • Write research proposals to attract research funding;
  • Engage in interdisciplinary collaborative research and community engagement initiatives;
  • Participate in assigned administrative duties necessary for the smooth running of the department.
  • Experience in curriculum development for veterinary programmes will be an added advantage.

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • An MSc/PhD in Animal Health/Veterinary/Animal Science;
  • Lecturing experience in Animal Health;
  • The candidate must be registered with the South African Council for Veterinary Scientists.
  • A proven publication record in accredited journals;
  • Experience in leading joint research projects;
  • Good teamwork, interpersonal and leadership skills;
  • Strong language and communication skills;
  • The ability to attract undergraduate and postgraduate students to the Department;
  • For a Professorship/Associate Professorship/Senior Lectureship post, the candidate should have a PhD in the relevant field, and a record of post-graduate supervision at Masters and PhD level, as well as evidence of previous research funding awarded.
