The University of Fort Hare wishes to appoint an academic staff member to enhance the current research and teaching capacity in the Economics department. Expertise and experience are sought in the field of economics. It will be expected that the successful candidate conduct postgraduate and undergraduate teaching in the programme focus areas in the department. 


  • Provide academic leadership
  • Teaching, Learning and assessment of undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Assist curriculum design and implementation of newly accredited programmes.
  • Assist with preparation of new programmes for approval and accreditation by relevant bodies in the country within a problem based and case based teaching environment
  • Participate in collaborative research projects locally and internationally
  • Supervise postgraduate students research projects
  • Provide leadership in community engagement projects of own speciality.
  • Integrate research in communities
  • Proper administration of courses
  • Mentor junior academic staff
  • Represent the department at faculty and University level
  • Ensure good relations with stakeholders 





The successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

  •  An appropriate PhD qualification in Economics
  • A proven research record supported by publications (Min. of three recent publications)
  • A strong postgraduate supervision record (honours, masters and PhD students)
  • Ability to teach econometrics and financial markets courses at honours level
  • Experience of teaching in economics, specifically econometrics.
  • At least three to five years’ experience in a University environment.
