DIRECTOR: HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT

ALICE/BISHO/EAST LONDON CAMPUSES

5 YEAR FIXED TERM CONTRACT - REF NO: G034

R 1 020 378 – R 1 275 472 p.a (All-inclusive package)


 

The University of Fort Hare is a vibrant multi-campus institution with its main campus in Alice (others are in East London and Bisho).  We seek to employ an experienced, high-calibre professional with a strong track record of effective leadership, a wide range of strategic management skills and an advanced level of knowledge of HR Management.

This person will form part of the senior management team of the University and will be responsible for developing and directing the implementation of management strategies and systems aimed at enhancing the performance and service delivery footprint of the University’s Human Resources Department. 

He/she must also be highly experienced in the development of strategic and operational plans and preparation of reports to various senior management committees, the University Senate and Council.

 

The successful candidate will also lead and strategically guide the planning and provision of high quality human resource services across the University in accordance with the its strategic objectives, plans and priorities.  

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Provide strategic leadership within the HR Department,
  • Oversee the effective implementation of institutional Strategic Objectives for HR as provided for in its Strategic and Operational Plans,
  • Co-ordinate policy development, and periodic reviews and implementation of relevant policies, 
  • Facilitate change management and within the HR Department and across the University,
  • Contribute effectively to the planning processes of the University,  
  • Ensure that the HR Department provides high quality support to faculties/ departments/ units and individual staff members of the University,
  • Ensure effective development and management of the team of HR Department staff
  • Effectively oversee the implementation of all HR systems, such as recruitment, management of conditions of service, employee and labour relations and performance management,
  • Provide effective financial management for the HR Department.

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • A relevant Master’s Degree with a specialisation in Human Resource management, business management or an allied field,
  • Extensive relevant experience five of which should be at management level,
  • Experience in the Higher Education policy, legislative and administrative environment,
  • Possession of requisite computer skills,
  • Change and conflict management,
  • Collective bargaining experience and labour relations management.

Included in the above remuneration is the company contribution to our compulsory pension fund, medical aid contributions, life cover and an optional annual bonus.
