Job Description: 


Director: Finance (REF 3)

(5-Year Fixed-Term Contract)

(Alice & East London)

 R 958 101 – R 1 197 626 (All-inclusive Package)

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Director is responsible for providing financial leadership on critical issues including key liaison between the CFO, Department of Education, Management, Students and Employees on financial matters, strategic and financial planning, asset/liability management, management of external vendors, including external auditors and consultants, and supervisor of Finance and Accounting Team.




  • Manage information flow to Executive Management Team (EMT), Management Committees, Finance and Audit Committees;
  • Represent the University on University controlled entities and University Retirement Funds;
  • Prepare and coordinate dissemination of key financial performance information to EMT
  • Supervise direct reports responsible for accounting, budgeting and project finance




  • CA (SA) or MBA with at least 5 years’ experience in a senior management position;
  • Demonstrated presence and excellent communication skills, written and verbal, equivalent  with working in a Board of Directors environment and Executive Management Team, while representing the University before its most significant external and internal constituents, e.g., students, staff, external auditors, Department of Education; etc.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including the ability to multitask, plan ahead and make sound judgements with incomplete information;
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and overcome bureaucratic thinking;
  • Positive attitude and ability to collaborate well with others, especially in stressful situations.
