CONSULTANT :TEACHING AND LEARNING 

EAST LONDON CAMPUS - REF NO. 2852

R 408 499 – R 507 624 PA (All-inclusive package)

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:-

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and supporting language and writing interventions for students, and the development of capacities to use these tools to achieve Learning Outcomes. The candidate will assist with the evaluation of teaching, modules, programmes and courses; assist with offering of modules on the PGDHET programme; assist with the curriculum development and review of modules, programmes and courses; serve on other teaching and learning related committees on the East London campus. The incumbent could also be asked to become involved with committee roles and the Teaching and learning (TL) Week activities as and when decided upon by the Director. The candidate will also play a role in the coordination, design, development and support of the Induction Programme jointly run by TLC and the HR Department.

 

KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Develop and support peer facilitators in the language and writing programme
  • Design, develop and facilitate student and teaching development workshops, seminars  and colloquia
  • Support departments and individuals (staff and students) with teaching and learning interventions in the areas of student development, peer assisted learning, language and writing, NBT, online evaluation of teaching and courses, e-assessment, facilitation in PGDHET, et cetera.
  • Conduct research in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL)

 

Requirements: 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND COMPETENCIES:

  • Masters’ degree (preferably in Education or English)
  • PDGHET is an added advantage
  • 5 years’ experience in academic development in Higher Education
  • Sound knowledge of teaching and learning theories and practices in Higher Education
  • Knowledge of facilitating language and writing in teaching and learning.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication and inter-personal skills plus a cooperative spirit
  • A strong interest in student development in Higher Education
  • Have well developed organizational, supervisory and administrative skills
  • Well-developed organizational and facilitation skills
  • High level of proficiency in MS Programmes
  • Good Report writing and Research skills
